• Gyanesh Kumar is responsible for SIR deaths: Abhishek in Nandigram

  • The BJP workers, who have either removed or torn Sebabashray posters in Nandigram have become mortally scared of Trinamul Congress, said Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of Trinamul Congress.

He inaugurated Sebaashray camps in Nandigram this afternoon. He assured that such camps would be held every year in Nandigram.

Mr Banerjee said people from Nandigram had approached Ek Dake Abhishek in October-November 2025 and requested to open Sebaashray camps in Nandigram. Mr Banerjee clarified that camps are being held not because election is round the corner but because people from the area had requested him to open the camps.

He said dedicated teams have been set up to look after the patients who would be referred to state-run or private hospitals in Kolkata. If required they would be referred to outside Bengal.

Mr Banerjee had earlier announced that he would inaugurate the camps in Nandigram on 15 January.

He took part in a procession and reached the venue where the camps are being held in Nandigram Block I. Thousands of people gathered on two sides of the road to greet him when his motorcade reached the spot.

Mr Banerjee talked to those who had visited the camps and assured them that every care will be provided to them.

The Sebaashray camps, an initiative to provide free medical assistance to the people living under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat, was first introduced in 2024. The initiative is the first of its kind in the country taken up by an MP. The camps are held for seven days in each Assembly segment.

Taking cue from the success of Sebaashray camps in 2024, Sebaashray 2 camps have been opened in Diamond Lok Sabha seat. The camps will come to an end on 28 January.

Mr Adhikari had earlier urged the Hindu population of Nandigram not to attend the camps as through injection and medicine Trinamul Congress will try to ensure that the male population becomes sterile.

Coming down heavily on the Election Commission of India, Mr Banerjee said “Logical discrepancies’ notices have been sent to harass the people only in Bengal. More the notice, lesser will be the seats for the BJP. The ECI have deleted names of voters describing them as dead. The ECI is not issuing any notification and giving instructions on Whatsapp. This is unconstitutional. The BLOs and other people have committed suicide because of illogical and arbitrary decision of the ECI.”

He further added: “If logical discrepancy list is not published by ECI, there will be democratic protests in Kolkata and Delhi. Why Bengal has only been singled out. Despite questioning multiple times, we didn’t receive any answer. When protests begin, Gyanesh Kumar will realise Bengal’s power. More than 82 people have died due to unplanned SIR and Gyanesh Kumar is responsible for it.”
