• Pipeline repairs to disrupt water supply in New Town till Sun
    Times of India | 17 January 2026
  • Kolkata: New Town Action Area I will get reduced water pressure till Sunday due to an ongoing repair work on a 600mm diameter water supply pipeline.

"The leak has been plugged and the repair work on the pipeline is complete. However, it will take about two to three days for the concretisation work to settle before the repaired pipeline can take full water pressure. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, only two pumps are being operated instead of the usual three, for which Action Area I will get slightly reduced water pressure for the next couple of days. Normal water supply with full pressure is expected to resume from Sunday evening," said an NKDA official.

Several residents said that they faced problems as the underwater reservoirs of their houses were empty. Many are hiring water tankers to meet their daily need. The authorities requested residents to minimise the use of filtered water for car and other vehicle washing purposes as much as possible for the next couple of days until normal water supply resumes.
