  • Kolkata: The Election Commission has extended the deadline for claims and objections by four days from Jan 15. Issuing a notification, the Commission said that applications for new voters and deletion of names (Form 6/6A and 7) can be made till Jan 19. Besides West Bengal, this additional time was also granted to Goa, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, and Puducherry.

Earlier, West Bengal chief electoral officer Manoj Agarwal requested the EC to extend the deadline for claims and objections for the convenience of people.

In a letter to five CEOs, including Agarwal, the EC said, "I am directed to refer to the Commission's letter No 23/2025-ERS (Vol II) dated Oct 27, 2025, related to the schedule of the Special Intensive Revision and to state that the Commission considered your requests and other relevant factors and decided to extend the same up to Jan 19, 2026."

About 4.3 lakh applications (Form 6/6A) were submitted to enrol names in the voter list in the state until Jan 15, after the publication of the draft SIR list in Bengal on Dec 16. The EC received close to 39,000 Form 7 for the exclusion of ineligible electors.

The Election Commission received only 8 applications for inclusion in the voters' list from political parties till Jan 15, after the publication of the draft SIR roll in West Bengal on Dec 16.

The Trinamool Congress submitted the highest number of applications at 3, followed by 2 from the CPM, while the BJP, BSP, and the All India Forward Bloc filed 1 application each.
