Singur migrant labourer killed for ‘speaking Bangla’ in UP

Singur: Saidullah Sheikh, 38, a resident of Payraura village under the Gopal Nagar gram panchayat in the Singur assembly constituency, was allegedly attacked and killed in UP on Jan 13, his family members alleged on Friday.
Sheikh worked as a migrant labourer in Sharafa Market in Auraiya district of UP. Sheikh and his wife received notices to appear in person for SIR hearings on Jan 17 and Jan 20 respectively. On Jan 13, Sheikh had dropped his wife and their three-year-old son at the station who took a train home around 3 pm.
A social worker in Auraiya, Liton Mallik, who is coordinating with the family, said Sheikh was murdered sometime after that. "Police are investigating the case," he said.
A post-mortem examination was conducted under the supervision of Auraiya police on Jan 14, after which his body reached his home in Gopal Nagar on Thursday.
