Kolkata: The detective dept arrested 4 on Friday in connection with an alleged insurance fraud in which a city doctor was induced to pay more than Rs 55 lakh in an organised insurance fraud scam, police said. The arrests were made around 5.20 pm from an apartment on Purba Sithee Road under Nagerbazar PS. The arrests followed a complaint by Siba Jyoti Putaninda of Roy Bahadur Road, under Behala PS, last year.
The arrested were identified as Prasanta Paul, 35, of Dum Dum, Sandip Dalal, 32, of Burdwan, Debanjan Bose, 33, of Digha and Sajal Patra, 33, of Uttarpara. "The accused allegedly approached the complainant around 2024 claiming to be agents of insurance firms. Police said the men allegedly convinced him that they could surrender his old policies and secure payouts, and induced him to make multiple payments totalling Rs 55 lakh," said Joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.
