  • Kolkata: The Girish Park PS received a complaint alleging that a group operating from an office in the area posed as legal professionals, collected large amount of money from a woman involved in a matrimonial dispute citing court expenses and pressured her into a compromise after allegedly contacting her husband without her consent.

She also found that her husband was tricked in a similar manner, and both ended up paying Rs 4 lakh each to this gang. She also found that no application ever reached court on behalf of either her or her husband.

The woman alleged the dispute with her husband and in-laws was on for months when a resident of her complex approached her at her flat on Christopher Road, introducing herself as a qualified advocate of the high court and offering to resolve the matter quickly. The complainant alleged she was taken to an office on Vivekananda Road on Aug 15 last year, where she was introduced to a man presented as the proprietor. She said she was advised to file criminal and civil cases and asked to pay Rs 50,000 for filing and related expenses. She alleged her signatures were taken on blank papers and other documents.
