EC sends 3rd reminder for FIRs against poll officials

Kolkata: Election Commission (EC) on Saturday sent a third reminder to the DEOs (district election officers) of South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore for of lodging FIRs against the EROs (electoral registration officers) and AEROs (assistant electoral registration officers) of Baruipur East and Moyna.
A day ago, the state govt pleaded with the EC to reconsider their decision to lodge FIRs against the four officials and a casual data entry operator of Baruipur East.
In Aug 2025, the EC had directed lodging of FIRs against the five election-related personnel for alleged manipulation of electoral rolls in Bengal. After that, the state govt tried to intervene, and the then chief secretary Manoj Pant appeared before EC officials in Delhi. Subsequently, the electoral officials were suspended.
