Kolkata: A man and a woman, travelling on a bike on Maa Flyover, were seriously injured as a car, headed towards Park Circus hit the two-wheeler and collided with the median divider on Saturday evening. The car driver sustained minor injuries.
Police sent the two on the bike to SSKM Hospital, where doctors said they suffered serious injuries on their legs, though there was no threat to their lives.
Police said the reason behind the collision was yet to be ascertained. The car will be sent for a mechanical test. As the accident took place during the rush hour, cops from the Pragati Maidan PS and Tiljala Traffic Guard disallowed vehicles onto the flyover and diverted them to the Park Circus connector below for some time.
Kolkata Traffic Police will approach KMDA yet again and ask for crash-barriers to prevent accidents on Maa Flyover, especially on the Garia ramp. Saturday's accident took place near the diversion point. "Four accidents have been reported from that spot. In two of these accidents, three bikers—a couple from Sarsuna and another from Patharpratima—were severely injured near the Garia ramp and the 4 No. Bridge. We want crash-barriers at accident-prone spots," said a Lalbazar officer.
