BJP cadres clashed with police personnel in Burdwan town this afternoon following chaos during the submission of Form 7 to the Election Commission of India.
Four BJP cadres were arrested in connection with the incident. The situation further escalated when Trinamul Congress supporters assembled at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, East Burdwan (North), where BJP cadres were allegedly trying to evade police action while submitting Form 7.
Form 7 can be submitted by any individual or political party to object to the inclusion of a person’s name in the electoral roll.
Dr Shantarup Dey, BJP district spokesperson, alleged: “The police were acting at the diktat of the TMC and arrested our men arbitrarily.”
Amid continuing allegations and counter-allegations between the TMC and BJP in Bengal over the submission of Form 7, the Election Commission of India has clarified that any registered voter within a specific constituency may submit any number of forms, and there is no limit on the number of forms an individual voter can submit.
