Kolkata: A 38-year-old man, Saikat Pramanik, who had earlier been imprisoned for killing an uncle, has been arrested again on Tuesday for allegedly murdering another uncle in Ichhapore, shortly after being released on bail. Police said, Saikat had been in jail for the past three years murdering his uncle, Naba Pramanik, in Nov, 2022.
On Monday afternoon, soon after his release from prison, Saikat returned to his home in Ichapore and allegedly assaulted another uncle, Kanai Pramanik, leading to his death. An officer said, Kanai was brutally beaten on Monday night, and was allegedly struck on the head with a heavy object. Hearing his screams, family members and locals rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to Barrackpore B N Bose sub-divisional hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday afternoon.
A relative of the deceased, Bulti Sadhukha, alleged that Saikat was addicted to various substances and frequently caused trouble at home. "We are examining all possible angles, including family discord and property disputes," said a senior officer. —Sanjib Chakraborty
