    Times of India | 22 January 2026
  • Kolkata: The EC on Wednesday directed the state government to explain by Saturday the procedural lapses in initiating FIRs against two EROs and AEROs of Moyna and Baruipur East and a data entry operator. The EC said they were allegedly involved in irregularities in voter list preparation. It also asked the chief secretary to explain the circumstances that led to non-compliance with the EC's directives.

The four officials and a data entry operator in Baruipur were found guilty of using an EC password to access the EC portal. The EC said they helped include ghost voters. The EC had asked the state to suspend them, initiate departmental proceedings, and lodge FIRs against them and against the contractual data entry operator of Baruipur East, Surajit Halder. The state government said the alleged misconduct did not warrant criminal prosecution because disciplinary action had been initiated. tnn
