  • Kolkata: The West Bengal Central School Service Commission on Wednesday released the names of 18,900 candidates, shortlisted for the posts of assistant teachers for classes 11 and 12 at state schools.

Around 26,000 teachers and non-teaching school staffers lost their jobs following a Supreme Court order in April last year.

SSC held a fresh test on Sept 7 to fill 12,445 vacancies in HS schools. It conducted interviews in 35 subjects and more than 20,000 candidates were called for interviews. An SSC official said, "Offer letters will be sent out to shortlisted candidates from Jan 27, following which counselling will begin. We hope to complete appointments by Feb-end."

Recruitment tests for non-teaching staff members' posts are expected before March, after the SSC receives approval from the state education department.

An education department official said, "The department worked to fill vacancies at the earliest to restore normal functioning at schools. Our focus is on transparency."

Mehebub Mandal, a teacher who lost his job, said, "We found some colleagues' names missing from the panel despite them appearing for the interview. We need such a list."
