Kolkata: ED on Wednesday attached Rs 58 crore worth properties in the cash-for-jobs case, taking the total value of attachments to Rs 698 crore.
Properties of the accused, including Burwan MLA Jiban Krishna Saha, middleman Prasanna Kumar Roy, were attached. These included residential units, villas and land parcels in Rajarhat, New Town and Patharghata in North 24 Parganas as well as Murshidabad and East Burdwan.
ED sources said the agency believes MLA Saha was "actively involved" in collection and handling proceeds of crime from undeserving candidates to secure their appointments to group C, D and assistant teacher posts. The agency has attached Rs 3 crore worth properties linked to Saha.
It further alleged Roy, a close associate of Partha Chatterjee, "laundered hundreds of crores" through a complex network of more than 90 companies, limited liability partnership companies and bank accounts.
The agency alleged Roy invested the proceeds in the name of former wife and associate Nilima Mandal.
It further alleged Roy arranged jobs for nearly 2,081 candidates, of which 1,135 were for classes 9 and 10 at different schools.
