  • Howrah: Samsul Molla (46), an alleged quack, was arrested under the Pocso Act on Thursday night in Bankra, Howrah, for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in his chamber, police said.

An officer from Howrah City Police said the girl, complaining of severe abdominal pain, visited Molla's chamber in the Rajib Pally area of Bankra with her parents on Thursday night. He then took her into his cabin and assaulted her, the officer said.

Hearing her cries, her parents rushed in, and the child informed them about the abuse. She also started bleeding from her private parts.

Molla claimed that during the examination, the child had moved a lot, which caused injury to her private parts.

As the news spread, locals caught Molla and handed him over to the Bankra police outpost. The child was taken to Domjur Hospital for a medico-legal test and treatment.

During police interrogation, Molla admitted that, out of curiosity, he inserted forceps into the child's private parts, causing the injury. Molla had completed a two-year certificate course and was a registered allopathic practitioner (RMP), police said.

Police produced him in Howrah Court on Friday.
