Kolkata: A 17-year-old boy was detained by police on Saturday for impersonating an Income Tax officer and visiting schools in Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas with cars fitted with blue beacons and accompanied by bodyguards, allegedly to impress friends.
The incident occurred a day after Saraswati Puja, when teachers were busy with festival-related activities and students crowded the pandals.
According to sources, around noon on Saturday, three vehicles arrived at the gate of Ashoknagar Vidyasagar Banibhaban High School, one of them fitted with a blue beacon. "En-ex student of the school, who is a minor, stepped out of the vehicle, accompanied by 8 to 10 men posing as bouncers. He greeted the headmaster and introduced himself as an I-T officer," a senior official said. He later went to another school in Ashoknagar. The headmaster of the second school alerted Ashoknagar police.
