  • Kolkata: Thailand has introduce thermal screening and mandatory health declarations for passengers arriving from the city. The decision has sent ripples of concern through the travel industry.

Thailand, along with Nepal and Taiwan, rolled out Nipah virus screening measures at airports and land entry points, even as no such protocol is in place at the city airport. "There is no guideline from the health ministry, so we are not screening any passengers," Kolkata airport director Vikram Singh said. According to Thailand's ministry of public health, more than 1,700 arriving from Kolkata were screened for Nipah virus till Tuesday morning, with no positive cases detected.

Travellers are undergoing temperature checks and are required to submit health declaration forms at the dedicated screening stations. "There is no guideline but screening is making tourists panicky," said Anil Punjabi, chairman (east) of the Travel Agents Federation of India.
