  • Howrah: A clash broke out in Tikiapara at 2 am on Monday, after Trinamool and BJP supporters fought over the last packet of biryani from a famous shop on Belilious Road. Police said, the situation became violent as both the sides attacked each other with bricks, stones, glass bottles and bombs. Four men were arrested and a youth, Amir Khan, suffered a severe head injury when a stone flew through an open window and hit him while he was asleep in his flat.

Amir's brother, Shaukat Khan, said, "My brother required 17 stitches. We were attacked despite not being involved." An officer said, parts of the biryani shop and four flats were vandalised, and the RAF had to be deployed to control the situation. The clash began with an argument between residents of Hara Chand Mukherjee Lane and Pakija Galli over purchasing biryani, said locals.

Former Trinamool councillor MD Selim said, "BJP workers began to support one side, prompting Trinamool supporters to protest. Many involved were intoxicated, worsening the situation."
