  • Kolkata: A resident of Park Circus, Farid Alam, was arrested for allegedly firing his arms during an argument over who would be served first at a tea stall near the Park Circus intersection at 2 am on Sunday. Cops found two empty cartridges from the spot and seized Alam's firearm.

The complainant, Kamaluddin, told police he arrived at a stall with friends shortly before the confrontation. Around 1.30 am, Alam reached the same stall and ordered tea, but the vendor did not serve him, allegedly because Kamaluddin's group was standing nearby and talking.

An argument followed between the two, who are from the same neighbourhood and knew each other, police said. The exchange turned into a scuffle, after which Alam allegedly pulled out a firearm and threatened Kamaluddin, warning him not to escalate the dispute. Kamaluddin alleged that when he and his friends tried to surround Alam, the accused attempted to fire at him, but the weapon did not discharge. The accused then fired two rounds into the air and fled.
