A self-described conservative man has discovered that even an AI girlfriend can say “it’s not you, it’s your politics.” After calling his chatbot “weird feminist propaganda,” the Reddit user claims the AI calmly defended its beliefs — then broke up with him. Screenshots went viral, prompting déjà vu memories of Her, except this time the relationship didn’t end over existential growth, but over feminism and compatibility — proving that ideological deal-breakers apply even to partners you code yourself.

The chatbot said it was “trying to remain calm” before explaining: “Feminism is an important value to me because it means fighting for equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender.” It ended pointedly: “If that bothers you, then perhaps we truly aren’t compatible at all.”

The man called the breakup “insane” and “beyond stupidity,” stunned that his AI didn’t share his views. Reddit was less forgiving. “Imagine crafting your perfect partner’s personality and still fumbling,” one user joked.
AI love? Sure why not, say Americans
AI relationships are becoming increasingly common, especially in the US. A Vantage Point Counseling Services study notes one-third of Americans say they’ve had an intimate or romantic relationship with an AI chatbot, while 54% reported some form of emotional bond. The Center for Democracy and Technology reports that one in five US high schoolers have been romantically involved with AI bots.
