Believe it or not: New Yorkers were dashing through the snow storm
Times of India | 28 January 2026
You would expect people to stay at home when such a fierce, almost apocalyptic snowstorm hits the city. But not New Yorkers. As Winter Storm Fern blanketed the city in thick snow and freezing winds, locals bundled up and stepped out anyway. The twist? They were sledding and skiing through Times Square which is usually teeming with tourists, dancers and all kinds of performers. What’s more, the famous Naked Cowboy too made an appearance, with his guitar and boots. Schools went remote, travel stalled, but New York, predictably, carried on.

The big freeze
Winter Storm Fern disrupted life well beyond New York, grounding flights and snarling transport across multiple states. In the city, students shifted online while Arctic temperatures and heavy snowfall transformed daily routines, without dampening New Yorkers’ collective defiance of winter.
