Kolkata: Two women were severely injured in Beleghata after a car, driven by a woman from Khardah, hit them from behind on Beleghata Main Road. The cops claimed that the woman at the wheel was heavily drunk and hit the first woman near Subhas Sarobar before travelling a significant distance and hitting the second woman near a popular biryani shop close to midnight on Sunday.
The FIR was drawn up based on a recorded and signed complaint by Kanchan Devi (42), of Chaul Patty Road under Beleghata PS, one of the two victims who is still recovering from her wounds.
According to the complaint and police account, the car first struck a pedestrian, Diya Mondal (21), near the Subhas Sarobar area. Officers said the vehicle continued for a considerable distance before hitting the complainant, Kanchan, near the biryani shop on Beleghata Main Road. Both pedestrians fell on the road and sustained severe injuries. They were taken to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The accused driver, a resident of Sodepur under Khardah PS, was identified in the FIR and was arrested based on CCTV footage evidence.
