Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday transferred the trial in the 2022 Bogtui massacre case, in which eight people were killed, from Birbhum to East Burdwan, accepting a plea by the CBI.
The case had been heard at the Rampurhat court since its inception. In 2025, the CBI moved the high court seeking transfer of the trial outside Birbhum, contending that witnesses were unable to depose freely in the district.
Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee ordered the transfer of the case to a court in Burdwan. Violence erupted in March 2022, after a bomb allegedly planted at Bogtui More killed TMC neta Bhadu Sheikh. In the aftermath, several houses were set on fire, killing at least eight people.
