Kolkata: Cops registered a case after an ambulance worker and driver were "assaulted with bricks" outside a Bypass private hospital's gates on Tuesday, leaving one of them with fractures and head injuries.
Complainant Tanmoy Shikari of Kalikapur said he received a late-night booking for patient transport from the hospital to Sagar Dutta Medical College & Hospital. According to the plaint, an ambulance was sent. After receiving the patient, however, the vehicle developed a breakdown. A second ambulance was sent soon. Shikari alleged that a dispute began at pick-up point as the party was not ready to proceed, as they felt the second ambulance was not big enough to accommodate 5.
During altercation, he said, a woman slapped one of the drivers and a man began beating him "brutally" with bricks, injuring his forehead, back and pelvic region.
Police said a case was recorded under BNS sections 118(2) and 54. The incident occurred around 12.50 am on Jan 27.
