Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday allowed BJP to hold a protest march to Narendrapur police station on Jan 30 over the deaths of workers in the Nazirabad godown fire. The rally will begin at Sitala Mandir, pass through EM Bypass and end 200 metres short of the police station.
Justice Suvra Ghosh directed the party to limit participants to 2,000 instead of 3,000. "If they plan to start the rally from EM Bypass instead of Sitala Mandir, they must intimate cops by 7 pm on Thursday. A delegation of 5 members will be allowed to enter the police station to submit a deputation," she said.
Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited Nazirabad with party netas. "Section 163 was imposed to restrict the opposition from entering the godown premises. We demand the resignation of fire and emergency service minister Sujit Bose, who was seen here 32 hours after the fire. We want stern action against the culprits responsible for the death of these people and we also want the compensation hiked to Rs 50 lakh from Rs 10 lakh per family," Adhikari said.
