Kolkata: A 32-year-old biker was detained and handed over to Bowbazar Police on Thursday after he allegedly assaulted two cops — a sergeant and a home guard — on traffic duty and snatched govt-issued equipment at the Ganesh Chandra Avenue-Nirmal Chandra Street crossing.
According to a written complaint, the incident occurred at 12.22 pm when home guard Prabir Dey intercepted a west-bound bike for an alleged traffic signal violation close to Hind Cinema.
The rider was later identified as Zeeshan Fahim Siddiquie from Titagarh.
The complainant, sergeant Suman Chatterjee, said Siddiquie struck Dey in the face, damaged his uniform, and snatched a govt-issued wireless manpack set from him. When Chatterjee, alerted by Dey, arrived at the spot to question the accused, Siddiquie reportedly grabbed Chatterjee by the uniform collar, and used "filthy and slang language", before snatching the sergeant's body camera.
