  • Howrah: A former soldier and security guard at Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden in Howrah was hospitalised after he was injured by a morning walker. A complaint was filed against accused Soham Sharma. The security guard, who sustained injuries to his face and eyes, was admitted to a private hospital in Howrah.

The park, also known as the Shibpur Botanical Garden, has a lot of visitors taking morning walks, most of them elderly. During winter, the designated time for morning walks was from 5.30 am to 7.30 am.

A few days ago, when a youth was seen in the park after the designated time, the security guard on duty at the gate asked him to leave immediately. An argument ensued, and the youth punched the security guard in the face and eyes, and started abusing him.

The garden's joint director, Devendra Singh, said, "All security guards here are former soldiers and should be respected. This incident is condemnable." He said the employee's tooth was broken and he suffered injuries to his chest and eyes.

A complaint was filed with police. Cops said a case was registered and a probe is underway. — Rupak Banerjee
