Kolkata: "Will work as a team," Bengal DGP Peeyush Pandey told reporters on Saturday after taking charge from Rajeev Kumar. Kolkata Police commissioner Supratim Sarkar also took charge and immediately listed out his priorities to senior officers.
Meanwhile, the Bengal govt, for the second straight day, made several transfers, including rejigging Kolkata Police.
Pandey, after taking charge at Bhawani Bhawan, told reporters, "Me and my colleagues, we wish to work as a team. We will strive to provide proper policing to the public. We are always there for the public and we will also expect full cooperation of the public to ensure proper policing." Pandey, on his first day as DGP, however, chose not to comment on the Bengal polls. "I will not comment on this now. Let me understand a few things first."
Sarkar returned to Lalbazar on Saturday as police commissioner and took charge from his predecessor Manoj Varma. Sarkar met senior officers during the day. It was learnt that Sarkar urged his colleagues in Kolkata Traffic Police to increase their visibility and asked everyone, from officers to constables, to be on the road during peak hours. Sarkar did not speak to the media during the day.
The Bengal govt issued its second mass police transfer orders involving 26 officers, rejigging both Kolkata and Bengal Police. Priyabrata Roy, DCP (south) has been transferred as SP Barasat. Bidisha Kalita, DCP (SSD-Jadavpur) will now take charge as SP Bongaon. Charu Sharma, SP (HQ) Sunderban will be the new DC (SSD-Jadavpur). DCP (north) Dipak Sarkar will be DC (south). Arish Bilal, DC (east) has been transferred as SS (Intelligence Branch). Jaspreet Singh will be the new DC (east). Amit Verma, who was DCP (1st battalion), will be the new DC (ESD).
Pushpa will be the new DCP (Bidhannagar). She was serving as SRP (Howrah). She will be replaced by Indrajit Basu, who was SP (Bengal STF-Operations). Jyortirmoy Roy, CO (EFR, 1st battalion), will be new DC (New Town). Praween Prakash, SP (Darjeeling), will be replaced by Pratiksha Jhakariya who was posted as SP Barasat. Prakash will now be CO (6th battalion).
Two important transfer orders were modified. IG Amit P Javalgi, ex-Chandernagore commissioner, will be the new IG (Barasat range) in cancellation of earlier posting as IG (Burdwan). DIG Alok Rajoria will be the new DIG (Burdwan) in cancellation of his earlier posting as DIG (Barasat).
