  • Kolkata: A mobile phone was stolen from a bus passenger near Ajay Nagar crossing on E M Bypass around 6.30 pm on Sunday after some people reportedly pushed the man off the bus and then fled with the expensive phone. Survey Park police have registered a theft case and have started a probe.

Complainant Sumon Nanda, a resident of East Midnapore currently staying in East Rajapur near Santoshpur, alleged that as the bus neared the Ajay Nagar bus stand and he was about to get off, some unknown persons pushed him from behind, causing him to lose balance while stepping off. Taking advantage of the moment, one of the men removed Nanda's cellphone from his pocket and fled before Nanda could react. The entire episode lasted only a few minutes, he told police.

Police said the stolen cellphone was worth Rs 25,000. The complaint provided two IMEI numbers and listed two SIM numbers for cops to trace the device.

Nanda said he had banking details stored on the phone, and needed to take preventive action and block his accounts for the time being. Cops said they are checking CCTV footage to trace the accused.
