  • Malda: A 60-year-old voter appeared in SIR hearing after travelling in an ambulance from Bibigram under English Bazar PS to Malda Zilla School on Tuesday.

Mahmud Sk, a mason by profession, had an accident two years ago when he had fallen from a multi-storey building. Since then he had been bedridden and under treatment.

He was supposed to visit his doctor on Tuesday at Raiganj. But, a few days ago, he got a notice and was asked to turn up for the hearing on Tuesday.

He was brought to the hearing centre accompanied by his children. His son Altaf said, "In the same ambulance, we took him to Raiganj after the hearing was over."

Trinamool Congress councillor Subhomoy Basu said, "How can EC be so inhuman. About 1,200 out of 4,176 voters of my ward were summoned over logical discrepancy".

However, BJP neta Ajoy Ganguly said, "Trinamool Congress is deliberately trying make a gimmick. There was no need to bring Mahmud personally. Anybody from his family could have brought his documents."
