Believe it or not: This AI minister is expecting... 83 AI kids
Times of India | 4 February 2026
Albania’s newest “expecting” mother isn’t human – she’s AI. Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that Diella, the country’s AI Minister for Artificial Intelligence, is “pregnant” with 83 digital children. No nappies involved: the “babies” are AI assistants being rolled out to help lawmakers survive parliamentary debates, missed meetings and political mudslinging. Governance, meet group project.
Mother of the future of governance
Diella was first introduced earlier in 2025 on the e-Albania portal to help citizens navigate government services and fight corruption by making public procurement more transparent. Now embodied visually in traditional dress, she’s become a global curiosity — part bureaucratic tool, part viral media moment as the world watches Albania’s AI experiment unfold.
83 digital kids, no diapers needed
At the Berlin Global Dialogue, Rama said the 83 assistants — each tailored to one Socialist Party MP — will record everything in parliament, keep officials updated on what they missed and suggest where they should “counter-attack” in debates. The system is expected to be fully functional by the end of 2026 and represents a bold step in digital governance.
