  • Kolkata: With former education minister Partha Chatterjee now included in various assembly committees, speculation is rife about whether the Behala West MLA is gaining importance after his release from jail.

He was in jail for over two years in the teacher recruitment scam case.

The 17th Bengal Assembly is expected to conclude on Monday with the vote-on-account session. It remains to be seen whether Chatterjee attends the 3-day session from Thursday, which would be addressed by Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose.

An official said Chatterjee was placed in the standing committees of the library, fire and disaster management, and housing departments.
