• Contempt plea over Metro work delay

  • Kolkata: Contempt notices were served on the state home secretary and joint commissioner of police (traffic) on Wednesday regarding the Orange Line's Chingrighata impasse.

    On Dec 23, 2025, Calcutta High Court had directed the state to ensure that the metro viaduct bridging work at Chingrighata crossing is complete by Feb 15, 2026. Dates for the traffic diversion should be finalised by Jan 6, the court had said. Metro Railway GM SS Mishra on Monday said they didn't hear from the state govt regarding the traffic block dates. According to the order, the traffic block for six nights over two weekends should be implemented over this week and the next.to fill viaduct gap at EM Bypass crossing for Orange Line to reach Sector V. Upamanyu Bhattacharya, the petitioner, told TOI, " Despite the RVNL building a roadmap for traffic diversion, the state govt's stance is depriving the city." tnn
