  • Kolkata: A senior citizen, Arunjyoti Bar, residing off Tollygunge Circular Road, died after falling ill during a quarrel at his home on Monday night, after a money lender, identified as a ‘Kabuliwala', allegedly sent his brother to demand repayment of an old loan, police said.

The complainant, Kinkini Bar, told police that her father took a loan of Rs 70,000 from ‘Kabuliwala', identified as Ahmed, several years ago. On Feb 2, Ahmed's brother, Hazrat, arrived at their residence and demanded money. Kinkini alleged that Hazrat misbehaved and assaulted both her father and her mother during the quarrel. She also said that her father had pre-existing medical conditions, including asthma, heart blockage and diabetes.

Following the altercation, Arunjyoti reportedly became unwell and developed breathing difficulties. Cops said that he was swiftly admitted to MR Bangur Hospital, but he died while he was undergoing treatment. A case under culpable homicide leading to murder was registered.
