Believe it or not: A Chinese lamb that just loves to play possum
Times of India | 5 February 2026
The internet has crowned its newest thespian – a milky-white lamb from China. This 10-day-old lamb in northwestern China has gone viral for dramatically playing dead every time a potential buyer approaches it, only to jump up healthy the moment they walk away. The behaviour has enchanted millions online and even prompted offers of nearly ¥130,000 ($19,000, or Rs 17.14 lakh approx) to buy the little lamb, which its owner refuses to sell.
Offers pile up
Videos of the “drama queen lamb” racked up over 10 million views and boosted its online following. Some fans offered almost ¥130,000 to buy it, but Jin refused, preferring to use its fame to promote local specialties like lamb meat, goji berries and eight-treasure tea — turning a viral
lamb into a rural tourism magnet.
The lamb who comes back to life
Farmer Jin Xiaolin brought four lambs to the market, but one stood out by collapsing whenever anyone reached to touch it — convincing buyers it was unwell. As soon as they turned back, it popped up perfectly fine and playful. Observers say it appears affectionate only toward children, adding to its quirky charm.
