• VIP Road gets second biodiversity park at Debi Ghat near Dakshindari

  • Kolkata: VIP Road now has its second biodiversity park. The renovated Debi Ghat at Dakshindari off VIP Road with renovated landscape, greenery and walkway along the waterbody was virtually inaugurated by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.

    "The place has been developed as a biodiversity park at a cost of about Rs 5 crore where people can spend quality time," said Bidhannagar MLA and fire & emergency services department minister Sujit Bose.

    The timings for visitors to enter the park has been kept from 5am to 9am and again from 3pm to 9pm. A platform decorated with alpana drawing has been set up and rollers have been installed on the slope from the platform for idol immersion on different puja occasions.

    On the right end of the ghat, an open iron cage has been set up for disposing of the daily household puja offerings like flowers and other materials. The conservancy workers of South Dum Dum municipality will collect the materials from the cage for disposal on a daily basis.

    The waterbody has been spruced up with fountains placed on it to bring an aesthetic look. A walkway has been set up surrounding the waterbody where visitors can have a stroll. Wooden benches have been set up at different points beside the waterbody along with waste bins beside them where people can sit and enjoy the fresh air and view of the waterbody. A toilet block has also been set up for visitors inside the park.

    The greenery of the place has been increased with tree plantation. illuminated high mast lights have been installed with 24 hours round the clock security surveillance.
