6 Madhyamik examinees hurt in bike crash, 2 critical

Howrah: Six Madhyamik examinees were injured in an accident at Howrah's Hatal Manashatala crossing while returning home on bikes after their exams on Friday afternoon. Among them, two are in a critical condition while four were discharged after initial treatment. Of the critically injured students, one was transferred to a private hospital in Uluberia and the other to Kolkata. All the injured students were from Bargachia Priyanath School and took their exam at Hatal Bishalakhi High School.
According to cops, after their history exam on Friday, the students were returning home on two bikes. One of the bikes lost control and crashed into a tree, causing the three students to be thrown off. One of them was run over by the other bike, which then crashed into the same tree. The other three students were also flung off.
Locals took them to Jagatballavpur Goalpata Hospital, from where the four were discharged. Cops noted that the bikes were speeding and none of the riders wore helmets.
Subhash Das, a member of the district secondary exam monitoring committee responsible for Jagatballavpur, said they rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and arranged for the students' rescue and medical care. Cops were also informed.
