Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate claimed to have come across contracts worth Rs 6.9 crore, from which Sandip Ghosh, former principal of R G Kar Medical College, allegedly secured undue advantage. In a press statement, ED said that substantial amounts were recovered from the contractors.
In the statement, ED said that proceeds of crime were systematically diverted and siphoned off by colluding with contractors.
The contractors either issued bearer cheques or transferred the amount through different accounts. The amount was withdrawn in cash and paid to Ghosh. That way, it had no footprint tracing it back to Ghosh. ED also claimed that the money traced in Ghosh's accounts was disproportionate to his salary.
ED on Friday filed its first charge sheet before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court in Kolkata in the financial irregularities case linked to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. It named Ghosh as the main accused and also listed private vendors Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra as accused beneficiaries.
