Kolkata: Bengal panchayat minister Pradip Mazumdar placed the Panchayat (Amendment) Bill in state assembly on Saturday, which stipulates that panchayat office-bearers cannot be removed from office before three years. Earlier, this period was two-and-a-half years, reports Debashis Konar.
The bill states that no meeting for the removal of senior panchayat members, including pradhan and upa-pradhancan be convened within a period of three years from date of election. The opposition alleged that this was a political manoeuvre by TMC to prevent factional conflicts.
