Kolkata: Cops arrested two men on Saturday for the alleged gang-rape of a teenage girl in Patuli last month. The suspects, Akash Haldar and Pradeep Mondal, were produced before the Alipore Pocso court, which remanded them in police custody until Feb 11.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of Saraswati Puja on Jan 22.The victim was lured to a room by three youths in a slum, where she was subjected to a sexual assault. The teenager disclosed the ordeal to her family members who lodged a police complaint on Jan 26.
Cops said the accused youths absconded since then, and two of them were arrested on Saturday. During the court proceedings on Saturday, Special Public Prosecutor Madhabi Ghosh strongly opposed the bail applications filed by the defence.
Cops said they launched a manhunt to apprehend the third suspect involved in the crime. The victim's medical examination was conducted, and her statement was recorded.
