  • Bhagawangola (Murshidabad): Mostari Banu is not one of the heavyweights fighting a legal battle in the Supreme Court against the SIR in Bengal, but the 44-year-old CPM worker from Bhagawangola was the first to file a suit against the electoral list revision process. Mostari's petition is listed for hearing on Monday along with those of poet Joy Goswami, CM Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool MPs Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, state Congress president Subhankar Sarkar, and the Sanatani Sansad. She will be in the Supreme Court on Monday with her lawyer Sabyasachi Chatterjee.

Mostari had moved the Supreme Court after the EC published its SIR notification for Bengal on Nov 11. "I felt many of the EC's actions were unethical and illegal and would cause harassment," Mostari said and added: "I listed 9 concerns, ranging from the EC using unvetted software and photograph specifications that will cause unease among Muslim women, to the issue of Madhyamik admit cards and arbitrary SIR summons."
