  • Kolkata: Justice for the RG Kar raped and murdered junior doctor rang in the air again on Monday. The chest medicine PGT would have turned 33 on Monday. The on-duty junior doctor was murdered after being raped in the department where she was on duty. Her body was found inside the seminar room of the chest medicine department on Aug 9, 2024.

Eighteen months after the crime, various organisations took to the streets, protesting for justice for the deceased junior doctor, coinciding with her 33rd birth anniversary.

"My daughter was raped and murdered in her workplace. We did not get justice till date. We were told that Sanjay Roy was arrested and convicted. But we are convinced that Sanjay Roy alone did not commit the crime, and there are other people involved in it," said the slain junior doctor's mother during a protest at Dorina crossing organised by West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front (WBJDF).

The WDJDF's protest included the participation of Abhaya Mancha. Later in the evening, the two organisations took out a torch rally from the slain doctor's house in Sodepur to Tilottama Mor.

The RG Kar Resident Doctors' Association, along with the students' body of the medical college, also took out a candlelight march from the college campus to Shyambazar 5-point crossing, demanding justice for their deceased colleague. They offered a floral tribute to the ‘Cry of the Hour' statue, vowing not to stop reminding the people concerned till justice is served.

"While the incident and the series of protests following it restored a democratic atmosphere on our campus, our slain colleague is yet to get justice, and we will keep raising our voice time and again till we are convinced that justice is delivered," said a junior doctor of RG Kar.
