Kolkata: The Lalbazar top brass, led by Kolkata Police commissioner Supratim Sarkar, on Monday issued operational directives to improve public service delivery. OCs were asked to personally meet complainants as required, improve coordination among units, and manage police station guards so that they arrived at the spot quickly. Speaking at a crime and traffic conference on Monday, Sarkar also asked officers to ensure hygiene at all police stations and traffic guards.
Officers were instructed to ensure sustained visibility and mobility on the ground, with an emphasis on proactive patrolling and prompt response to incidents.
To strengthen inter-unit functioning, officials told officers to avoid jurisdictional conflicts and ensure seamless coordination while handling cases and field duties. The conference stressed that units must work together during investigations, deployments, and traffic management, and that disputes over territorial responsibility would not be accepted.
Senior officers also warned that delayed reporting would not be tolerated. Units were directed to report incidents and operational requirements without delay, and to address any shortfall of force through improved deployment and timely communication of manpower needs. Officers were instructed to provide a patient hearing to complainants and visitors, engage courteously, and ensure timely attention to grievances.
Sarkar said the visibility of traffic cops has improved and appreciated their work. He directed the enhanced presence be maintained consistently across key routes and junctions to manage congestion and respond to violations and emergencies.
The instructions are to be implemented across units, with supervisors monitoring compliance.
