  • Kolkata: The West Bengal Clinical Establishments Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) sought a detailed report from the Kolkata Police commissioner on a case in which a man was detained and later arrested while his wife was critical in hospital.

According to a complaint lodged with the health commission by Debnath Bhattacharya, his 25-year-old wife's condition deteriorated after an ERCP procedure at a nursing home in Tollygunge. Bhattacharya said he was at the nursing home with her parents when cops took him to Tollygunge PS and detained him. He alleged he was kept at the PS all night and arrested on dowry charges the next morning. His wife died in this time. WBCERC chairperson Justice (retd) Ashim Kumar Banerjee said the panel did not come across any document of a dowry-related case against him. "We requested the Kolkata Police commissioner for a thorough probe and to give us a report," Banerjee said. — Sumati Yengkhom
