Kolkata: The fourth-semester Higher Secondary (HS) examinations began on Monday amid protests from students and parents over what they described as inadequate preparation time and fewer classroom sessions under the new semester system.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) implemented the semester pattern this year. While the first part of the HS examination was held in Sept, students said they received barely two months to prepare for the second part. Parents blamed delayed book distribution and limited teaching days. Teachers' deployment for SIR work after the third-semester exam reduced classes in many schools. WBCHSE president Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said teacher deployment and holidays were beyond the council's control.tnn
