Kolkata: A group of outsiders broke into a computer training centre in Chitpore and stole items from the institute, prompting police to register a case and launch a probe. The owner, a resident of Northern Avenue, also alleged that when his wife got wind of the incident and tried to stop the accused from fleeing with the stolen items, they threatened and verbally abused her.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred a couple of days ago between 12 midnight and 1 am. A group of his own relatives and their associates from the adjoining slum broke a padlock and removed computer equipment and other items from the premises.
When the theft was confronted, the accused threatened to kill the complainant and used words insulting the modesty of the complainant's wife. The accused also tried to vandalise the room. The complainant also alleged continuing intimidation after the incident.
The FIR stated that 10 computer sets, computer accessories and other parts were taken. The complainant, a govt contractor in education and training, alleged that the stolen computers were used for a govt training programme and that the loss disrupted his ability to complete contractual obligations. The complaint claimed the contract value was worth Rs 15,00,000 and alleged the disruption could lead to blacklisting and financial and reputational damage.
Police registered the case at Chitpore police station under sections 330, 305, 79, 351(3) and 54 of the BNS. A separate police note stated that the allegations prima facie appeared to be true and required detailed verification through a proper enquiry. It sought permission to conduct the enquiry to determine the facts behind the complaint.
