Kolkata: On Thursday, the maximum temperature dipped slightly, while the minimum temperature climbed in Kolkata. Met officials said that, apart from minor fluctuations, the mercury will continue to hover around the normal mark for at least the next one week. There will be no abrupt surge in the mercury, they said.
The maximum at 29.2° was close to 30° on Wednesday. On Thursday, it receded to 28.8°. The minimum, however, climbed from 15.6° the previous day to 16.9°. Both the day and night temperatures were slightly below the normal mark.
Sources in the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata, said that even as the city is getting the cold and dry north-westerly wind, this system is not powerful enough to bring in the cold factor any more, as there is increasing solar insulation in the region from where this wind breezes into the city.
While the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 29° and 17° respectively on Friday and Saturday, both are likely to go up by around one notch each from Sunday, making both the days and nights slightly warmer.
"Even if the maximum hits 30°, it will be around the normal mark for those days. This rising tendency is seasonal. But as the mercury surge will be gradual and not abrupt, we can expect the weather to be pleasant for now," said an official of the Alipore weather office.
Winter 2025-26 was one of the best in the city due to the sustained cold feeling that began from Dec second week.
