Kolkata: A 28-year-old female influencer and her male friend were allegedly subjected to road rage, verbal abuse, and threats by four bikers for more than 40 minutes on Vidyasagar Setu after a minor collision, prompting the woman to seek police action and file a complaint at Hastings Police Station.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 1 am on Thursday. The woman, who lives in Shibpur and Bansdroni, said traffic was slow due to congestion and her vehicle was travelling at about 20–25 kmph when it was hit from behind.
She alleged that two bikes carrying four men rammed her car and then confronted her and her friend, accusing them of causing the accident. The woman claimed the men used abusive language, demanded money for damages, and threatened legal consequences. She also alleged that she was verbally harassed, and that both she and her companion sustained injuries.
The complainant said she called the police emergency number 100 immediately after the collision and received multiple calls from police personnel, but alleged that officers failed to reach the spot for an extended period, citing difficulty in tracking the location. She said after waiting for 30-45 minutes, she and her friend tried to find cops themselves.
In her statement, the victim alleged during the wait for cops, the bikers again tried to hit them and threatened them, and that she attempted to stop one of the riders from leaving but was unable to do so as the others pulled him away and fled. Hastings police has registered an FIR. Police said the claims that the accused abused and threatened the complainant were found to be, prima facie, true. "We seized footage and contacted the RTO in this regard," an officer said.
