  • Kolkata: The state will find alternative accommodation for CISF personnel brought in after the RG Kar rape-murder, who are currently housed at Tangra's Pei May Chinese High School, by April 30, state counsel told the Calcutta High Court on Monday.

The home secretary was directed to file an affidavit stating that the school premises will be vacated by April 30 and that an alternative place of accommodation will be provided.

These CISF jawans were deployed on guarding and protection duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for two months and 130 of them have been housed in 18 rooms of the school. But the school is also a community centre and place of worship for the Chinese people living in the area.

The case pertained to temporarily handing over eight rooms for the celebration of Chinese New Year. CISF's counsel informed Justice Krishna Rao that after the rooms were handed over, personnel had to sleep in the verandah along with their guns and ammunition.

Justice Rao said, "After all, they are the defence personnel; we should show some respect to them. Let them remain on the premises; they should not face any problem."

The school authorities had approached the court, asking for CISF to hand over eight rooms for the new year celebration. During the hearing, the question of alternative accommodation for the personnel was raised.
