Two fraudsters including a Bangladeshi national, were arrested in New Town on Monday for allegedly kidnapping two Bangladeshi youths by posing as immigration officers and extorting Rs 3 lakh from their families through a video-call ransom. Police said the accused lured the youths with promises of arranging Portuguese visas. They were taken to a service apartment in Baligari on Sunday, confined and assaulted. The kidnappers then made a video call to the victims' families in Bangladesh, showing them captive and demanding Rs 3 lakh for their release. The amount was transferred. When the accused demanded an additional Rs 27 lakh, the families alerted police. tnn
