Kolkata: Six Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on Sunday for allegedly overstaying their visas after a verification drive at hotels in Park Street led cops to a room occupied by foreign guests whose documents had expired, police said.
The arrested men were identified as Abir Hossain, Mohammad Mamun Rashid, Mohammad Alimun Gazi, Azam Molla, Fayzal Amin and Zaidul Islam. Police said they recovered six valid Bangladeshi passports from the men.
The cops also named the hotel in their FIR and lodged a probe against them for allowing the guests to stay even after the expiry of their visas and failing to alert the authorities.
During interrogation, two to three men told investigators they were associated with the Awami League and left Bangladesh amid the unrest. They entered India on medical visas, entering the city separately, and later moved between hotels in Kolkata while remaining in contact with one another, cops said.
